Hi, my name is Shilo Christiansen (シャイロ・クリスチャンセン). I’m 16 years old. I was born in China and moved to NY, USA when I was 5.
I started learning Japanese after the first time I heard it. It was so different than the sound of English. After I started learning the language, I began learning about the culture. I fell in love and knew I wanted to come to Japan.
I self-studied with the help of some Japanese music and dramas.
In America, I really enjoyed watching dramas, bike-riding, and photography. In school I really liked literature and French class. I already graduated from high school, so like my fellow 3rd year classmates, I’m applying for college.
I hope to study Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. In the future, I want to be an interpreter/translator. I love to read, so translating literature would be a good job. I also love people, so interpreting would be a good job for me. I wanted to travel a lot in the future. I also want to teach other people, including myself, to be more worldly. I want to learn about as many cultures as I can. I think that would be the best way to gain wisdom and to be better myself.
